The Polar Express on the Durango Silverton Railroad

Thanks guest blogger Kelly McCallister for the post.

The Durango Silverton Railroad is located in both Colorado and New Mexico. Each year they do a Christmas event where kids dress in their pajamas and the railroad is decorated in a Christmas fashion. They do this to mimic the cartoon The Polar Express. The kids had been asking every Christmas if they could attend the attraction. Since we live in New Mexico, we decided to give it a try. However, it is kind of far from where we live so we set our adt inchome security alarm system before we left to Colorado.

The train boards in Durango, Colorado which is a mountain town surrounded by enormously large pine trees. The town gets in the Christmas spirit and decorates some of the pine trees, making the whole place look like a holiday wonderland. We boarded the train in our pajamas and took our window seats to get a good view. It starts off when it is still light outside so you can see the amazing views as we head to Silverton, New Mexico.

The passengers are served hot chocolate by staff in Christmas outfits. After a long trip we arrive in Silverton where we can stroll through the little town shops, eat some home cooked food at the cute little diner and then get back on the train for more hot chocolate and a relaxing ride back to the station.
