My 4-year-old kitchen redecorator

Guest post written by Shirley Foster

At first I was furious when my 4-year-old daughter painted hand prints with finger paint all over my kitchen cabinets. But then I realized it was a perfect opportunity to get a kitchen facelift.

Once I showed my husband our daughter’s handiwork, he was on board for my plans of refacing cabinets from Sears. After all, our white cabinets were starting to look a bit dated beside our stainless steel oven and dish washing machine.

I talked to the specialists and decided I wanted a sleek look that would remind me of a commercial kitchen – except even better – and settled on oak cabinets with a black stain finish. At first my husband hated the idea of dark cabinets and loved the country feel of our mostly white kitchen. But I made a pretty good argument that the contemporary look of a dark, sleek kitchen would match the style of the rest of our rooms of our house much better than the country kitchen look.

Now my husband agrees after we can enjoy the finished product. I don’t know why he argues about things like this, because when it comes to home décor I’m always right.
